Hall Tree with Storage Bench

I'd been looking for something like this to put next to the garage door, as our "mud room." This fit the bill perfectly. I didn't put the last hook on, as it would have covered the light switch and jackets might have covered the assist bar my father-in-law uses. It holds quite a number of jackets and hats, as well as reusable grocery bags, and storage for shoes and other semi-large things you'd like handy, but not on the floor, on the shelf below. It took a while to put it together, making sure all the screws were in the right place, but it went together with only a little fudging (don't tighten all the screws until all of them are in). Since it is up against a chair rail, I put two small pieces of foam insulation (1/2" wide x 1/4" thick, self adhesive, the type you buy in a roll for window and door insulation) where it would come in contact with the chair rail. This protects the chair rail and keeps it from making noise when people move it (sitting down heavily, pulling a heavy jacket off quickly, etc). I have two concerns, both involve the bench. One is that the bench is part of the structure of the whole thing, but the screws holding it aren't into that much material (pressboard). Since I'm not planning on moving it around, and it sits in a corner, it doesn't move much on its own. The second is that those screws are in the middle of the bench, and if the foam breaks down too much, they may poke through. I purchased this on a really good sale, but I'm not sure if I'd be as interested at list price (it's a bargain at $100, not so much at $200), but if it is what you need, you'd be hard pressed to find something like it even for that price. I'd still recommend it, as it is better made than most "bargain" furniture pieces I've seen.
